Communication Geography: A Specialty Group of the Association of American Geographers

2011 CGSG Paper Competition

 


The Communication Geography Specialty Group will be awarding three paper prizes to student participants at the 2011 AAG meeting, in Seattle. There is a $100 first prize supported by Stanley Brunn, as well as two $50 runners-up supported directly by the specialty group. To qualify for consideration, papers must address geographical aspects of communication or communicational aspects of geography and must be sole-authored by currently-enrolled undergraduate or graduate students. Papers must be submitted by e-mail in completed form by March 25.

Details:

The judging will be performed by a panel of recognized geographers with expertise in various aspects of communic ation geography. Articles will be judged on the basis of appropriateness to the subject of communication geography, clarity, originality and potential for publication. Formatting should be suitable for an intended journal such as the Annals of the AAG, Geographical Review, Professional Geographer, Environment and Planning D, Political Geography, or another refereed journal. Length must be between 5,000 and 10,000 words. Submit as a pdf file or a Word document. If using Word, figures should be separate files (please do not embed images and do not exceed 1 megabyte per image). The author's name and contact information should be on a cover page that can be removed, and must not be indic ated in the body of the paper, in order to facilitate the review process. Winners will be announced at the COMGEOG specialty group meeting.
